New Euralarm Position Paper addresses the assessment and certification of sounders and Visual Alarm Devices using radio frequency links

Euralarm has published a new position paper addressing the assessment and certification of sounders and Visual Alarm Devices (VADs) using radio frequency links.

The position paper examines differing interpretations of the scope of the harmonised EN 54-3 and EN 54-23 standards, particularly in relation to devices with an autonomous power supply. It also considers the role of EN 54-25, which covers components using radio links and includes requirements for internal autonomous power supplies.

Based on an analysis of the relevant standards and their development, Euralarm concludes that there is no technical reason why radio-based sounders or VADs cannot be assessed using harmonised standards. The position paper sets out five key arguments supporting this conclusion and provides further background on the discussions within CEN/TC 72 and the Group of Notified Bodies. It aims to contribute to greater clarity and a consistent approach to the assessment of these increasingly important radio-based fire alarm devices.
