European Smoke Alarm Day
European Smoke Alarm Day is a joint campaign by the European Fire Safety Alliance and the Federation of European Fire Officers to promote greater awareness about smoke alarms. The aim is to:
- Encourage more countries in Europe to make it mandatory to install smoke alarms in residential homes.
- Encourage fire services at national or local level to get involved in providing or installing smoke alarms for vulnerable people living in their communities and in promoting greater awareness about smoke alarms.
- Provide basic information for householders about smoke alarms – type of smoke alarms, where to install them and how to look after them.
Smoke alarms save lives! Did you know?
- By installing a smoke alarm, you reduce the chances of a fire occurring in your house by 75 percent.
- By having a smoke alarm at your house, you are 4 times less likely to die.
- Deaths occur in 10 percent of homes that have no smoke alarms.
Euralarm has published a flyer with 5 things to consider when choosing, installing and using smoke alarms.
