Euralarm position on the use of EN 54-3:2014 +A1 :2019

Euralarm members of the Fire Section are asking all test and certification bodies to not mandatory also request compliance with EN 54-3:2014+A1:2019 with regards to any private label scheme or quality mark they offer.

For CE marking purposes audible signaling devices (sounders) of fire detection and fire alarm systems are tested according to the cited version EN 54-3:2001+A1:2002+A2:2006 standard. Euralarm members of the Fire Section are asking all test and certification bodies to not mandatory also request compliance with EN 54-3:2014+A1:2019 with regards to any private label scheme or quality mark they offer.

Whether a manufacturer of sounders of fire detection and fire alarm systems wants his products to comply with the legal requirements or additionally wants to have his product tested and certified according to the latest version of the standard is the decision of the manufacturer and should therefore be respected. The manufacturers organized in Euralarm do not see any additional benefit or gain in quality if a product meets both standards at the same time.

From the manufacturers' point of view, there is also no deadline that justifies the approach of individual testing and certification bodies to have to demonstrate compliance with both versions of EN 54-3 at short notice.

About EN 54 series of standards

The EN 54 Fire detection and fire alarm systems is a series of European standards that includes product standards and application guidelines for fire detection and fire alarm systems as well as voice alarm systems. The standard is widely recognised around the world for several countries outside of European Union in Latin American, African and Asian countries and several islands in the Pacific Ocean.

Part 3 of the standard (EN 54-3) focuses on Fire alarm devices and more specific on audible signaling devices (sounders).
