Euralarm supports simplification in the EU Digital Omnibus on data and cybersecurity

Euralarm has published a new position paper on the European Commission’s proposed Digital Omnibus initiative on data and cybersecurity, supporting efforts to simplify EU digital legislation while maintaining strong standards for data protection and cybersecurity

The association welcomes plans to consolidate multiple EU data laws into a single, coherent framework, which would reduce regulatory fragmentation and improve legal certainty for companies operating across the internal market.

Euralarm also supports targeted clarifications to enable secure biometric identity verification under the control of the user, as well as EU-wide harmonisation of key GDPR compliance tools such as data protection impact assessments and data breach notification mechanisms.

The paper further backs measures to address abusive data access requests, streamline consent requirements for certain first-party data uses, and introduce machine-readable consent signals to simplify how users manage privacy preferences.

In the cybersecurity domain, Euralarm strongly supports the creation of a single EU reporting entry point for incidents and data breaches, based on the “report once, share many” principle, to reduce duplication across EU cybersecurity and digital legislation.

Through these recommendations, Euralarm aims to help ensure that the Digital Omnibus improves regulatory coherence, strengthens the EU data economy and supports innovation while preserving trust and security.
