IWD 2026: Recognising the women shaping the future of fire safety and security

On International Women’s Day, Euralarm celebrates the women who contribute every day to advancing safety, security and resilience across Europe and beyond.

The fire safety and security sector plays a vital role in protecting people, buildings and infrastructure. From engineers and technical specialists to policy experts, researchers and industry leaders, women across our community are helping to shape the technologies, standards and strategies that keep societies safe.

Their work spans every part of the sector: developing innovative fire detection and alarm systems, improving suppression technologies, strengthening security solutions, and contributing to the regulatory and standards frameworks that underpin reliable and effective safety systems. Through their expertise, dedication and leadership, women are driving progress and ensuring that our industry continues to evolve in response to new challenges.

At Euralarm, we recognise that diversity strengthens our sector. Different perspectives, experiences and ideas contribute to better problem-solving, stronger collaboration and more innovative solutions. Encouraging and supporting more women to enter and thrive in the fire safety and security industry is therefore essential—not only for equality, but for the continued development and resilience of our field.

Across our member organisations, women are playing key roles in research and development, system design, installation, certification, standards development and policy engagement. Their contributions help ensure that fire safety and security systems remain reliable, effective and aligned with the needs of modern buildings and communities.

However, like many technical and engineering-related sectors, the fire safety and security industry still faces challenges in achieving greater gender balance. Promoting careers in safety and security to young professionals, supporting career development and leadership opportunities, and highlighting role models within the sector are important steps toward building a more inclusive industry.

On this International Women’s Day, Euralarm celebrates the achievements of women throughout our member network and the wider safety and security community. We also reaffirm our commitment to supporting initiatives that encourage diversity, professional development and equal opportunities across the sector.

By working together, we can continue to create an environment where talent is recognised, innovation thrives, and the next generation of professionals—women and men alike—can contribute to building a safer and more resilient future.

Happy International Women’s Day.
