Euralarm publishes interpretation sheet on EN 50710 standard
Copies of the Interpretation Sheet can be downloaded from the Euralarm website.
Background
The EN 50710 standard (Requirements for the provision of secure remote services for fire safety systems and security systems) has been drafted by CEN/CLC/JTC 4 and published by CEN-CENELEC in 2021. The Euralarm Services section took a leading role in this process with the aim to stimulate the uptake of remote servicing on Fire Safety Systems and Security Systems (FSSS) by providing guidance to service companies and by increasing the acceptance of remote servicing by end-users, insurance companies and response authorities. The Euralarm guidance document on Remote Services has been published in 2022 to help service companies assessing their preparedness to deliver remote services compliant to that standard. In addition, considering that the provision of remote services most often requires the use of cloud services, Euralarm published early 2025 a guidance document on contracting cloud services.
Interpretation sheet
Implementation of the standard has raised questions on how to interpret certain provisions. Acknowledging that CEN-CENELEC doesn't publish Interpretation Sheets, Euralarm decided to develop their own document for the benefits of the members.
This Interpretation Sheet is made of 2 main tabs. The first tab enriches the checklist provided in the 2022 guidance with interpretation and recommendations related to the different clauses and by identifying whether each clause is addressing product features of the Remote Access Infrastructure (RAI), product features of the Fire Safety systems or Security Systems (FSSS) or organisation processes. The second tab provides answers to Frequently Asked Questions that are more general and not specifically related to a particular clause of the standard.
Target audience
The target audience for this Interpretation Sheet are service companies willing to deliver remote services to Fire Safety systems or Security Systems in compliance with EN 50710. Those service companies have to put in place specific organisational processes in addition to the technical means for remote connection to the systems and this Interpretation Sheet will help them understanding those provisions.
