Green Deal

The EU’s goal of climate neutrality by 2050

How will the EU achieve climate neutrality by 2050?

Europe’s future depends on an healthy planet. Current climate and environmental-related challenges require an urgent and ambitious response.

The EU has committed to achieving climate neutrality by 2050. Reaching this objective will require a transformation of Europe’s society and economy, that will need to be cost-effective, just, and socially balanced.

The European Commission’s European Green Deal communication sets out policy initiatives that aim to help the EU achieve its 2050 climate neutrality goal. The Council discusses legislative and other initiatives under the European Green Deal after they are proposed by the Commission.
