Manifesto for a Safer and More Secure Europe - A Market-driven standards system that works for consumers and industry

17 February 2016

A faster and more efficient standardisation system in Europe would benefit consumers and manufacturers. We will continue to contribute actively to the work of European and international standardisation bodies to achieve this goal, notably through the development of market-oriented standards.

The European Commission, as part of its review of the European Standardisation System (ESS), should increase the role for market-driven standards as a way of focusing the system towards serving consumers and contributing to Europe’s competitiveness.

We call on the European Commission to adopt a revised and improved ESS (including through Regulation (EU) No 1025/2012) that strengthens market-driven standardisation. We also ask European Standards Organisations CEN, CENELEC and ETSI to ensure faster, efficient and effective processes with a program to continually improve the current system.
