Success for Euralarm ! - Positive Voting for the creation of a new CEN-CENELEC Joint Project Committee (JPC) CEN/CLC/TC 4 for an EN-Standard

Services for fire safety and security systems

In the Euralarm-Newsletter of July 2010 we have informed you that CEN has issued the resolution BT 2010/85 for vote and in parallel CENELEC BT 137/DG8160 to work on a European Standard for Services for Fire Safety & Security Systems.

In the meantime we can report that in both organizations the voting was positive.

In CENELEC the BT agreed and in CEN there was a large majority of the 29 votes casted. The details are:

  • Votes in favour: 24
  • Disagreeing with comments: 3
  • Disagreeing fundamentally 0
  • Abstaining 2
  • Abstaining without voting 2

The comments submitted are all constructive and will help to enhance the work and focus the scope to the essentials.

Besides the comments, quite a number of national standardization organizations have announced their interest in participating in the work of the new Joint Project Committee (JPC).

According to the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations Part 2, the Joint President Group has to endorse the CEN and CENELEC/BT decisions to establish this CEN/CENELEC TC 4.

This clear vote shows the interest of the stakeholders to create a European Standard as a base for the quality and competencies of companies and their employees providing services like planning and design, installation planning, installation and hand-over, maintenance and repair of fire safety and/or security systems.

But it is also the result of a coordinated effort inside Euralarm, to reach one of his major strategic goals. We would like to thank you all for your commitment so far.

However we all know that there is a big effort inside the new JPC to reach an agreement on such a standard. For this, a Euralarm TG has agreed on a draft-standard and will forward it to the JPC as a starting input.

It is of outmost importance that employees of Euralam members which have a deep an practical knowledge of the services provided around fire safety & security systems are delegated into the JPC, if we want to create a standard in the spirit of Euralarm that in a practical sense promotes a high level of quality and so ultimately benefits to our customers and business.

Therefore once again we invite you to support CEN/CENELEC/TC 4 in its work and are confident that you will respond positively to the coming call for delegates.
