CENELEC TC79/IEC TC79 - CCTV Standardisation

Work Group 7 - CCTV Surveillance Systems for Security Applications

Mid-summer, a major step has been reached in the world of standardization and specifically in the field of the fast developing CCTV market, with the release of the first CCTV transmission drafts while taking into consideration the most recent digital technology solutions.

The document EN 50132-1 : System Requirements for Alarm Systems CCTV Surveillance Systems for use in Security Applications has been published as EN standard in March 2010.

The draft document prEN50132-5-3 : Analogue and digital video interfaces has been sent out for enquiry early this year and comments have been received until October 2010.

The Work Group 7 has intensified its work on video transmission standards in order to finalize the following drafts by mid-summer.

  • prEN50132-5-1 : Video Transmission Requirements
  • prEN50132-5-2 : IP Video Transmission Protocols
  • prEN50132-7 : Application Guidelines

These final drafts have been sent out for enquiry at the end of August 2010 and the Application Guidelines draft has recently been sent to CENELEC Secretariat for enquiry.

The drafts Video Transmission documents are encompassing a broad spectrum of up-to-date information based on industry state-of-the-art international transmission secured protocols, thanks to the cooperation of open organizations such as ONVIF and PSIA.

The document Application Guidelines takes into consideration the most advanced techniques recommended for designing, installing and commissioning a secure CCTV system according to the end user requirements and based on formal documents Operational Requirements.

Going for international recognition: From CENELEC - TC79 to IEC - TC79

The transmission documents, backed with 3 years experience, are now moving to IEC for application in the international markets and are proposed for international standards with the objective of avoiding duplication of work as well as guaranteeing compatibility and interoperability of CCTV components and systems worldwide.

This may promote the video transmission standards from a European level to an International level, and participate at the harmonisation of standards, thus opening wider markets and opportunities in the field of security applications.

IEC TC79 International Working Group 12 covering Video-surveillance systems is now formed and 3 New Work Items ( NWI) are defined and headed by 3 groups leaders.

  • Video System & Transmission Requirements Europe Leader
  • IP Video Transmission Protocols USA Leader
  • Video Transmission - Analogue & Digital Video Interfaces China Leader

The objectives of WG12 are to produce new IEC international video transmission standards within the next year.

Note:

EN 50132 consists of the following parts, under the general title Alarm systems CCTV surveillance systems for use in security applications:

    • Part 1: System requirements
    • Part 5-1: Video transmission General video transmission performance requirements
    • Part 5-2: Video transmission IP video transmission protocols
    • Part 5-3: Video transmission Analogue and digital video transmission
    • Part 7: Application guidelines.

The future documents EN 50132-5-1, EN 50132-5-2 and EN 50132-5-3, will supersede EN 50132-5:2001.
