Notes from the President Rel 8.0 - Brief from the General Assembly 2006
June 13th, 2006Dear Euralarm members
It has been a while since my last note. I wanted to wait until after the General Assembly (GA) that took place 15/16 May 2006 in Seville. You will find the information about the GA on our Website. Here, I want to give you a very brief summary and conclusion:
We had an excellent attendance. In general the feedback was very positive, and, of course, we are happy about that. The attendees felt that Euralarm has gained momentum and that we are going in the right direction with our activities. It is clear however that we cannot rest now but have to continue the drive we started and move our ambitious projects forward within the time scales we agreed to.
There was one criticism, however, that we must observe when organizing the next GA. While the program was very much liked it was too loaded, in both the joint meeting and the section meetings, with the result that not enough time was left for discussion. Specifically in the joint section the project Euralarm Quo Vadis would have needed much more discussion. I can assure you that we drive this project forward and that at the next GA we will allow enough time for extensive discussion.
In the joint section we heard three interesting invited papers. The first paper on “The Promotion on EU Standards within and outside of Europe”, delivered by Dr. G. Leibrock from the Commission, showed the importance of high quality standards as a key promoter for European products, and we received a good insight into the “inner workings” of the Commission. It was important to have a representative from the Commission at our meeting as this is a great opportunity to strengthen our network with Commission representatives and bring our issues forward.
